At Risk ~ Overcomers

All children are at risk in some way and can benefit from caring adults who support them. There's a lot going on in our world:  violence, drugs, crime, parents who decide not to parent any more, etc.

We meet youth each week who are trying to end the cycle of addiction in their families.  They are doing their best to not fall into substance abuse or not be the next teen pregnancy.

Primarily LILYMI works with young people who are in schools with a 75% or more free or reduced lunch rate.  But guess what?  Even if a school does not have a high free or reduced lunch rate, there are still students in every school who are experiencing pain.

Youth face many challenges:  bullying, low self-estem, grieving, suicide concerns, and more. The third leading cause of death for young people age 15-24 is suicide.  That fact alone means we must work faster and reach as many children and youth as possible to let them know they matter.

While we hear many stories about children and families struggling to survive, we also hear stories of triumph.  Your support helps our staff to be present for a child, to encourage a child, to teach new skills and to ask the right question at the right time.

The LILYMI Foundation has an asset building approach.  We want to connect each child with as many assets and resources that we can in order to create protective factors for that child (  The more assets a child has, then the more likely he/she is to succeed in their life.

Every day that a LILYMI mentor or workshop instructor is with students is a day that we can offer encouragement for young people.  Some may view our students as at risk, but we view our students as overcomers.

EVERY 28 seconds a student drops out of high school.

2,880 children drop out of school every day.  This impacts youth, friends, families, neighborhoods, crime rates and our economy.

Don't settle for "that's just the way it is".  You can make a difference. Precious lives are at stake.

Welcome to LILYMI!  Together, we can reverse the dropout epidemic.
